The premiere edition of the procurement conference PROCON Indirect Forum 2017
The premiere edition of the procurement conference PROCON Indirect Forum 2017 organised with the watchword of “Directly on indirect procurement” has been a success. Almost 100 guests arrived at the Airport Okęcie Hotel in Warsaw, where the conference dedicated to non-production procurement was held on 21-22 March 2017
13 speakers included representatives of TKMaxx, Neuca, L’Oreal, Provident, Olivia Business Center, or NextBuy as well as experts, such as Jan Vašek (Cranfield University/VSB-TU Otrava), and the Special Guest, prof. dr Arjan van Weele, a world-renowned procurement specialist, who was, as always, full of energy and in a brilliant mood, involving the listeners deeply in his stories and examples, easily and imaginatively translated into the reality of the procurement industry and everyday work of managers and buyers.
The first day of the conference was focused on three main issues. The first one included the relations with suppliers and benefits derived from using supplier relations management systems, supplier assessments, and procurement outsourcing, presented using actual experiences. During the next part, i.e. the Discussion Panel titled “Procurement Organization in a Company – Is it Necessary? Procurement in the Eyes of the Management Board”, Mateusz Borowiecki (OptiBuy) had an opportunity to talk to invited Guests on relationships, issues, and possibilities of improving and establishing a successful cooperation of the Management Board and the Procurement Department. The chairs of Panellists were occupied by representatives of Management Boards and Procurement Managers from Pracuj.pl, Eurozet, PKO BP, and Play. Prof. dr Arjan van Weele, Special Guest at the conference, had a fascinating lecture discussing factors deciding about the success of teams managing procurement categories and on the cooperation of buyers and internal clients. In his speech, he emphasized the nature of the relationship with suppliers as a partnership based on mutual trust. The third topic concerned the management of administrative costs. The speakers discussed the issues related to a problematic question, i.e. whether to buy or to lease, the issue of fleet agreements, and the latest trends dominating the corporate fleet markets. They also spoke on the role of a procurement department in project-oriented organisations. The official part of the conference day ended with another Discussion Panel, which focused on the performance of procurement departments and manners of measuring the performance. Dr Tomasz Gonsion, the moderator (Partner at OptiBuy) discussed that issue with the Participants and Panellists: dr Jan Vašek and prof. dr Arjan van Weele.
A less official closing of the first conference day was held in the exclusive Klub Aviator on the 10th floor of the Airport Okęcie Hotel, where the Participants could exchange comments and experiences and talk to the speakers and the Special Guest in a more informal atmosphere.
The second conference day was focused on practical skills of buyers as well as managers and procurement department directors. Two procurement workshops were conducted by prof. dr Arjan van Weele and Mateusz Borowiecki (OptiBuy). The workshop of prof. van Weele, Special Guest, was addressed mainly to senior procurement managers. It concerned the future role of procurement managers and the development of procurement processes in an organization, in theory as well as practice – from the concept of supply chain management and tactic and strategic attitude, to business partnership, operating excellence, and practical development models. The second workshop was dedicated to constructing procurement strategies as well as to practical tools and concepts used in the process.
The factual contents of the conference were supervised by Akademia Leona Koźmińskiego; the Organizers were supported by NextBuy, a Partner (offering comprehensive e-procurement solutions – www.nextbuy24.pl) and Exhibitors: Ayming Group (an international procurement consulting leader in HR, R&D, and subsidy categories – www.ayming.com) and O3 (offering office furniture and computer hardware in the form of service outsourcing – www.o3lease.com).
We would like to express our thanks to the Speakers, Partners, Exhibitors, Patrons, and, of course, the Participants for their time, dedication, and support in celebrating such a high-quality procurement event together.
We hope that established contacts as well as the expertise and skills gained will be useful in your everyday work. See you soon at other PROCON events.
